Ramechhap, June 14 The Manthali-Khurkot road that links Ramechhap district headquarters, Manthali, to the country capital Kathmandu, is in a sorry state. Black-topped about six years ago, the road had to be repaired just a year after its top layer started wearing out. It takes up to one hour to cover 16-kilometre road from Manthali to Khurkot due to poor condition of the road, according to transportation entrepreneurs.

When the road was in good shape it took less than half an hour to cover the distance. &As the top layer of the road has been washed away, it is full of dust during the dry days and when it rains, it turns muddy,& said transportation entrepreneur Santosh Raya, adding that the condition of the road had worsened due to the ongoing construction work on the road to upgrade it. Locals said the contractor last time had used sub-standard materials while constructing the road and operating heavy vehicles on it had further damaged the road. &Vehicles plying the road carrying heavy machines and other consignments for different hydel projects being constructed in Ramechhap and Dolakha districts have contributed to the present condition of the road,& according to locals. Ram Bahadur Bishwokarma of Division Road Office, Sindhuli, admitted that the road was in a miserable condition.

&We cannot carry out the road repairing work in the current fiscal due to lack of budget,& he said. The post Manthali-Khurkot road stretch in sorry state appeared first on The Himalayan Times.
